At the 1995
draft, Owner Maureen Richardson made the legendary prediction of
a "Chick Threepeat," announcing that
her team would follow the
trail blazed by FAUX's other female-owned championship teams Phoenix
(1993) and Vera Cruz (1994) and capture
the '95 title. Getting hot at the right
time, the then-Nantucket Nuts won the FAUX Football championship
after narrowly capturing the Cell Division by
winning their final game of the regular to post
an unremarkable 7-7 record. When her prediction came to fruition,
the team established a league record for the fastest rise of an
expansion team to league champion (4 seasons). Their rapid rise
to glory was foreshadowed in their second season, when the young
expansion franchise captured the 1993 Cell Division title.
A member of FAUX's class of '92 (along with the Tasmania Devils
and the team now known as the Perth Amboy Predators), Sioux City
was the first team from that expansion class to win a division title,
not to mention a league championship. Their best season was in 2001,
when they posted an 11-3 mark. The Sirens (10-4) nudged out the
Stumptown Stompers (10-4) and claimed their fourth division crown
in 2006, thanks to their 47-33 regular season victory over their
division foes.
