The Vera Cruz Vipers earned the top seed at the end of the 2006 season, posting a league best 11-3 record. The marked tied the team's best season record, set in their 1994 championship campaign. In accomplishing this feat, the team also boosted its career winning percentage to an impressive .511. The team evolved from the Chicago Chick Conspiracy, the charter franchise co-owned by Maureen Corr (nee Ruane) and Deirdre Lewis (nee Connor). Corr's franchise became the Alcatraz Annihilators the following year, when Lewis and Corr decided to each run their own teams. The second of FAUX's Chick champs, the Vipers have enjoyed great success in their postseason appearances. As the VIcksburg Vipers, they won the league title in 1994, converting an 11-3 season and Moe Division crown into a championship. In 1996, the team stumbled, suffering its first losing season since the 1994 championship season. Disappointed, Corr shook things up and relocated her club, moving the Vipers to Vera Cruz. Despite going 3-11 in 1997, that September they defeated Yuba City, 80-21, to tie the league record for greatest margin of victory in a game. The Vipers have enjoyed good fortune over the past four seasons. On the strength of premier running back LaDanian Tomlinson, Vera Cruz converted 2003 and 2004 wildcard berths into consecutive FAUX Bowls appearances and has had only one losing season (4-10 in 2000) since the Millenium. In 2005, the Vipers crossed the 100-win plateau. The Vipers appeared in FAUX Bowl XVIII, and since 2001, they have won fewer than nine games only once (8-6 in 2003).
