In 2004, the Bedrock
Ninerstones were acquired from Red Matteucci by new owner Joe Carroll.
Wanting to put his own stamp on the franchise, Carroll moved his club
to Perth Amboy, NJ, renaming them the Predators. Carroll brought a
wealth of experience (not necessarily good) to the franchise. Carroll's
original FAUX experience came in 2000, when he served as a draft manager
and owner's assistant for Dan Casey (Manila Folders). In this first
role, Carroll drafted a roster that required only minor tuneup (three
free agents) enroute to the playoffs. Having demonstrated either his
command of FAUX strategy or incredible luck of the Irish, Carroll
was promptly hired away by Stumpville Stompers' owner John Murphy.
For the next two seasons, as Murphy's personal assistant and coffee
brewer, Carroll carefully observed the "do's" and "don't's"
(mostly "don't's") of FAUX ownership. In 2003, Carroll was
hired as General Manager of Bedrock Ninerstones. In this role, Carroll
handled all day-to-day duties, developing his own style of management
as he implemented his "Jets-centric planification." In his
first year as Bedrock's GM, Carroll's Peyton Manning-led franchise
posted a solid 9-5 record. With the retirement of franchise founder
Steven "Red" Matteucci after the 2003 season, Carroll assumed
full control of the franchise for the following season. In relocating
and renaming the team, Carroll stated he adopted a "look of intimidation,"
which Carroll refers to as the "Jets-inator factor."
